Visit to Casa Esperanza Montessori Charter School

Read Across America happened yesterday. Me and my Dad were invited to be guest speakers and readers at Casa (Casa Esperanza Montessori Charter School). Casa is a 501c(3) charter school that offers a dual language curriculum and Montessori philosophy. Their approach to learning provides social, emotional, cognitive, and academic benefits to build a foundation for lifelong success. They build their students to be global citizens by strengthening their leadership and critical thinking skills. You can read more about Casa by going here.

My dad and I spoke, answered questions, and read from my book, The Rules of a Big Boss to the 7th and 8th Graders. I of course had to shush my Dad a few times but I’m proud of him because he didn’t say or do anything embarrassing. He also didn’t mansplain or talk all day as he usually does. The kids were very engaging, fun, and they asked a lot of questions. One of them even drew me a picture of myself while I was reading and answering questions. They also said that I was much cooler than my Dad and that they loved my outfit. My dad claimed that he picked it out but he didn’t. He said that the shirt was ugly when I asked him to buy it for me. It‘s clear that he doesn’t know fashion.

Anyway we got to meet other several other authors. We also got hugs from our friend and fellow author Ms. Sherricka. She read Through Our Eyes. Through our eyes is a book about the impact of VP Kamala Harris on young black and brown girls. You can read more about her by going here.

We had Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks too (Yum). I told my dad that I’m jealous that I didn’t get to go to Casa because the school is amazing. And best of all, I got an excused absence from my school to be there. It’s safe to say that we love Read Across America Day.

How did y’all celebrate Read Across America Day?
